COURSE AIM / OBJECTIVE:
  • All bridge officers must have the necessary knowledge to performa safe navigation, using the human and technological resources available on board.
  • Knowing what to do, when to do it and how to do it right, allows to provide greater security in teamwork on the bridge; therefore, avoiding complications and minimizing the risks in navigation.
  • That is why the structure of the course has been developed, so the participant is competent and has the proper aptitude to develop the skills, abilities and perform within their tasks and functions on board. 
  • The Bridge Resource Management Course belongs to the minimum training requirements for bridge officers, in accordance with Rule II/1, Section A-II/1 and Table A-II/1 of the amended STCW Convention and its Training Code, comprising 32 hours between the theoretical and practical time. It is designed to complement the scope of the following competition:
  • Keep a safe watchkeeping.
 
COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:
  • To complete the learning objectives of individual conferences and discussion modules (e.g., leadership, communications, team training, multicultural diversity, etc.) and successfully participate in the simulator and team exercises, showing the knowledge about Bridge Resource Management.
  • The teaching strategies used by the instructors will be in accordance with the competencies and objectives to be achieved, which could be:
  • Master class.
  • Dialogue Shows.
  • Performance of learning situations.
  • Case study.
  • Activity simulators.
  • Subjective test.
Among other methods for the participant to successfully master the imparted knowledge.
 
TEACHING METHOD:
  • During the development of the bridge resource management course, the following teaching resources will be used:
  • Overhead projector.
  • Videos.
  • Slides.
  • Instructor's Handbook.
  • Printed documentation.
  • Texts.
  • Among others.
  • For theoretical classes, there must be an ordinary well-lit classroom with comfortable capacity for 20 participants.
  • The MMA shall complete the following information according to each simulator used in the teaching-learning process:

  • Objective and use of the simulator          The simulator is can simulate a realistic environment for selected STCW competence requirements referred to in Table 3-2

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP: COURSE CERTIFICATE:
  • To be an applicant for a certificate of competence as an officer in charge of the navigation guard, or
  • To have a competence certificate as officer in charge of the navigation watchkeeping.
 
TARGET GROUP: COURSE CERTIFICATE:
  • A certificate of course completion shall be issued to those who shall satisfactorily fulfill the course requirements.
  • Certificate of Proficiency is issued by the Department of Shipping, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
