  • This course provides an introduction to liquefied gas tankers and imparts the basic knowledge needed to serve as a member of the crew on this type of vessel and undertake specific duties relating to cargo and cargo equipment. The course is designed to meet the requirements of STCW section V/1-2-1 and is based on the guidelines of the IMO Model Course 1.04.
 
COURSE AIM / OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this course is to meet the training requirements STCW-78, as amended which comprises a basic training program appropriate to their duties, including liquefied gas tanker safety, fire safety measures and systems, pollution prevention, operational practice and obligations under applicable laws and regulations.

  • Basic knowledge of liquefied gas tankers
  • Basic knowledge of cargo operation
  • Basic knowledge of the physical properties of liquefied gases
  • Knowledge and understanding of gas tanker safety culture
  • Basic knowledge of the hazards associated with gas tanker operations
  • Basic knowledge of hazard controls
  • Understanding of Information on a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
  • Function and proper use of Gas Measuring instruments and similar instruments
  • Basic knowledge of safe working practices and procedure in accordance with legislation and industry guidelines.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid with reference to a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

  • Basic knowledge of emergency procedure including emergency shutdown
  • Basic knowledge of the effect of pollution on human and marine life

TEACHING METHOD:
  • The teaching instruction comprises a basic training appropriate to tanker personnel duties, including gas tanker safety, fire safety measures and systems, pollution prevention and operational practice. The instruction will be delivered through combination of classroom lecture, open discussion and tanker simulator exercises.
 
ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP: COURSE CERTIFICATE:
  • This course is principally intended for candidates for certification for basic training for oil and chemical cargo operations as specified in section A-V/1-1 para 1 of the STCW Code as amended.
 
TARGET GROUP: COURSE CERTIFICATE:
  • A certificate of course completion shall be issued to those who shall satisfactorily fulfill the course requirements.
  • Certificate of Proficiency is issued by the Department of Shipping, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
