COURSE AIM / OBJECTIVE:
  • This course structure has been developed for all seafarers employed or hired on board a ship who are entrusted with tasks in the Engine Room Resource Management, emphasizing the optimal use of the human and technological resources available to achieve the realization of a safe watch keeping.
  • Knowing what to do, when to do it and how to do it right, allows you to define the individual tasks and responsibilities of the different team members and the development of a situational awareness to prevent individual errors in the machine watch keeping.
 
COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:
  • Demonstrate knowledge for the Engine Room Resource Management, applying communication techniques where leadership is the guarantor of teamwork in ship operations, corresponding to Rule III/1, Section A-III/1 and Table A-III/1 of the STCW/78 Convention, as amended and its Training Code.
  • The Engine Room Resource Management Course complements the competencies applicable to officers in charge of watch keeping in a machine chamber, in accordance with Rule III/1, Section A-III/1 and Table A-III/1 of the STCW/78 Convention, as amended and its Training Code, comprising 32 hours between theory and practical time.
  • Competences: Perform a safe engine watch keeping.
 
TEACHING METHOD:
  • The teaching strategies used by the instructors will be in accordance with the competencies and objectives to be achieved, which could be:
  • Master class.
  • Dialog shows.
  • Performing learning situations.
  • Activity simulators.
  • Case study.
  • Subjective test.
  • Among other methods.
During the development of the Chamber of Machines Resource Management Course, the following teaching resources will be used:

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP: COURSE CERTIFICATE:
  • To be a candidate to a certificate of competence as a watch keeping officer in a machine chamber with or without permanent endowment or
  • To have a certificate as officer in charge of the watch keeping in a machine chamber with or without permanent endowment.
 
TARGET GROUP: COURSE CERTIFICATE:
  • A certificate of course completion shall be issued to those who shall satisfactorily fulfill the course requirements.
  • Certificate of Proficiency is issued by the Department of Shipping, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
